No one should be left alone, especially the most fragile and vulnerable, in the face of the spread of the pandemic. This is the need Sant'Egidio is currently responding to. With a sense of responsibility, we are effectively contributing to the containment of the contagion by strictly adhering to the necessary measures.  However, we are maintaining, and if possible strengthening, those bonds of solidarity that for many represent a vital support.

Since the beginning of the eighties, groups of people from the Sant'Egidio Community go to the train stations in the evening or in places where the homeless find shelter for the night, bringing warm food and drinks, blankets, and other kinds of useful comfort to protect from the cold.

Our volunteers continue to visit people living on the street to offer food, but also useful products to protect themselves from infection such as hand sanitizing and disinfectant wipes. This service is indispensable for all those who risk receiving less aid and support due to movement restrictions.

Moreover, this loyal and friendly presence treasures the value of the visit: to go towards those in need, bridging their gap of isolation by reconnecting them with ties of affection and solidarity.
